CRONIMET opens new location in Szczecin
• Festive opening with more than 260 international guests
• Easier access to steelworks in Scandinavia
• Handling capacities of 200,000 mt per year
The CRONIMET Group has opened yesterday its most recent location in Szczecin during a festive ceremony. At this site with port connection, CRONIMET focuses above all on its customer basis in Scandinavia.
“Szczecin has an excellent location: we want to supply our customers as rapidly as possible and with optimum co-ordination. As one of the largest and best located sea ports in the Baltic region, Szczecin offers excellent conditions”, says Jürgen Pilarsky, CEO of CRONIMET Holding GmbH. “The new location in Szczecin is to ensure volume growth but also to simplify scrap exports and render them less expensive.”
“Since 2013 there has no longer been a mandatory authorisation for cross-border waste transport. As a result of this situation, completely new flows of goods are now arising in East Germany, Eastern Europe and the Baltic. With the ideal location of the harbour warehouse in Szczecin, we want to participate in this new market development”, stresses Gregor Moj, Managing Director CRONIMET Poland.
After the ground-breaking ceremony in August 2013 and only less than a year of construction and building time, the first ship was loaded and sent on its journey. The materials traded in Szczecin range from special steel via iron scraps to ferrochromium and ferronickel. At the quay with own railway siding CRONIMET can load ships with a volume of 5,000 mt scrap. At the new location some 25 people will start their job.
